Yes, the BOBS website is back to bring you week to week reports on the current competition results, the eclectic table and any other news that may interest or amuse you.

WHO ARE THE BOBS

For those of you who do not know about us we will explain. The BOBS (Brora Old Boys) are senior members of Brora Golf Club who play 15 holes under Stapleford rules on each Tuesday morning (Weather permitting). The current office holders are:
Captain:                              W Ballantine,
Vice captain:                       B Bell,
Secretary:                           K Lorimer,  and
Treasurer and Webmaster:    P Coleby.

We are always pleased to welcome visitors who wish to join us who do not necessarily have to be senior citizens and often during the summer months we have quite an international field. The competition fee is £2 plus 10p for each bunker which you land in. The best three cards earn a voucher for the club shop. Surplus funds are donated to local causes and charities to whom we have been able to give over £3,000 during the last three years. All players are automatically entered in the summer or winter eclectic competitions and if anyone achieves that magic hole in one the BOBS fork out for drinks all round.

CORNY CORNER

It happened on the 3rd green when a player failed to hole a two foot putt.
“Oh s**t! I missed.” he exclaimed, forgetting that he was playing with the vicar who quickly rebuked him.
“It’s only a game,” said the vicar, “and if you go on swearing like that St Peter may strike you down with a thunderbolt.
Of course after a few more holes the player had forgotten all about the warning and when his ball slid past the hole once more he repeated his curse.
“Don’t say I didn’t warn you!” said the vicar and there was a sudden flash of lightning and a crash of thunder and a meteorite landed just six inches from the offending golfer.
Up in heaven St Peter turned to the archangel and said, “Oh s**t! I missed.”

If you have a golfing story (true or false) which may amuse our surfers why not E-mail it to peter.coleby@broragolfclub.co.uk for inclusion in a future CORNY CORNER.

LOOPY LIMERICKS

There once was a golfer from Brora,
Who’s 18 hole score was a horror!
When he couldn’t be heard –
Said a very rude word
And hoped to do better tomorrer!

Oh dear that was a terrible rhyme wasn’t it.   I’m sure you can do better.  Starting with the line   “There was an old golfer from Wick…” see what you cane come up with.

The BOBS will pay £5 for the best limerick received by 31st August and £2 for any others we include on our website – so get scribbling!

TUESDAY 22nd July 2008
Summer arrived at last  just in time for the Brora Carnival week open which overlaps with the usual BOBs competition.  Some players played the 18 holes but also will put in a card for the BOBs 15 holes.  The results will therefore be delayed until next week when the website will be updated.

TUESDAY 15th July 2008
A few drops of rain and a bit breezy but good enough to encourage a field of  24.  From the scores it would appear that the breeze took it’s toll - certainly the bunkers collected more balls than usual.  The top 5 players are listed below:
1st        D Matheson  (31 Points)
2nd       W Bell  (30 Points)
3rd        D Gunn  (30 Points)
4th        J Husband  (29 Points)
5th        S Sutherland  (28 Points)

TUESDAY 8th July 2008
A few drops of rain but no wind produced a reasonable turnout of 19.  The players included one of our visitors from America where his profession is that of a Judge.   He can obviously judge his putts as well because he managed to beat the locals into first place!   The top 5 players are listed below.

1st        Frank BURGESS  (31 Points)
2nd       B MUIRHEAD  (30 Points)
3rd        R SIM  (30 Points)
4th        W BALLANTYNE  (30 Points)
5th        W BELL  (29 Points)

TUESDAY 17th  June 2008

A bad forecast and rain at 8.00am meant that most of the early players went home but the weather cleared by 9.00am and the late arrivals made straight for the tee.  In the end 11 played.   Today was earmarked for the annual competition for the clock made by and donated some years ago by Rob Wilson and constructed to represent a golf ball on a tee peg.  This year it was won by W Beaton.

The top 5 in the small field were:-
1st-W BEATON (33 Points), 2nd-J HUSBAND (32 Points),3rd-D SMITH (29 Points), 4th-W McLAREN (28 Points), 5th-K LORIMER (26 Points)

TUESDAY 10th June 2008
Weather was dry but with a fresh & cold North East wind scores were bound to suffer but as treasurer I am pleased to say that the bunker box did well collecting £4.70 – on average more than 2 bunkers per round from the 22 who played.

Although only the best three cards get prizes we thought you would like to know which players just missed getting in the frame so we have decided to list the top scores each week. (We won’t embarrass anyone by printing out the lower scores!)

This week’s top ten are:- 1st W MaCLAREN 29 Points 2nd M MOORE 28 Points 3rd M EGGINGTON 28 Points 4th D McINTYRE 28 Points 5th T MACRAE 27 Points 6th J HUSBAND 26 Points 7th R BROWN 26 Points 8th B MUIRHEAD 26 Points 9th K LORIMER 25 Points 10th W BALLANTINE 25 Points

TUESDAY 3rd June 2008

The weather was slightly damp but none the less 19 played. There was only a light breeze which resulted in better than usual scores.

The winners were:

2nd with 32 points (BIH)          G Mevman
1st with 33 points                   R I Beaton
